Ringwood Beers

Best Bitter - 3.8% abv draught / 4% in 500ml bottle

Our first brew and still our top seller, Ringwood Best accounts for over 70% of our production. It is the beer most closely associated with the brewery and is the market leader in our area.

Best is a well-rounded beer with a delicious malt flavour balanced by a tangy citrus hoppiness. Brewed with floor-malted Maris Otter barley, Goldings, Progress, Fuggles and Challenger hops.

Fortyniner - 4.9% draught and bottle (500ml)

The name is taken from the beer's strength at 4.9% but also evokes its golden colour. Ringwood has been brewing Fortyniner since 1978 and is our second most popular beer. It is a golden full-bodied malty beer with a deep bitter-sweet finish. Brewed with floor-malted Maris Otter barley, Goldings, Progress, Fuggles and Challenger hops.

In 2004 the decision was made to create an identity for the beer and to focus on its colour and abv with a view to attracting new and younger drinkers.

The 3-stage promotional campaign started with 'Get the Rush' - to focus on the gold rush of 1849 - and then carried on with Gold Fever and Gold Rush and was a hit with consumers.

Old Thumper - 5.6% draught and bottle (500ml)

At 5.6% abv, Old Thumper is our strongest beer and was first brewed in 1979. In 1988 it was awarded the accolade of 'Champion Beer of Britain' by CAMRA which propelled it onto a national stage and it is still our flagship brew today.

It is the only beer to feature a boars head as its logo which is a key element of the beers' identity. It denotes strength and character which is why we decided to run a marketing campaign in 2002 to promote its strength and individuality.

Coincidentally, Old Thumper is also brewed for us under license by Shipyard Brewery in Maine, New England.

Old Thumper is a copper coloured full-flavoured strong ale brewed with floor-malted Maris Otter barley and Goldings, Progress, Fuggles and Challenger hops.
